The U.S. Department of Labor has issued new regulations setting the minimum salary that must be paid to overtime exempt workers. The changes take effect on December 1, 2016 and require that employers pay exempt employees on a salary basis at least $913 weekly ($47,476/year).
This is a drastic increase from the current standard of $455 weekly ($23,660 per year). The DOL estimates that over 5 million workers could be impacted by this change. Additional litigation is also expected over whether workers perform overtime exempt job duties.
Employment attorney David Riepenhoff will be on hand to answer your questions, review these proposed rules and discuss what companies can do now to become compliant with the new regulations.
