SUMMARY:Oboes on the Ohio
DESCRIPTION:Professional Musicians\, Band Directors\, Music Teachers and Students of all ages will want to attend OBOES ON THE OHIO\, a Double Reed Festival November 5 at the historic Ariel Opera House in downtown Gallipolis\, Ohio. There will be performances\, lectures\, master classes and workshops by esteemed double reed players and a double reed instrument/equipment swap meet  at our Recycle Table where participants can bring their used equipment to sell and/or trade.\n\n \n\nA special part of the event will be the evening program of The Ohio Valley Symphony. The 7:30 pm performance features guest artist Dwight Parry\, principal oboe of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra\, performing Francaix's L'Horloge de Flore (The Flower Clock).\n\n \n\nDwight will be giving a master class at 11:00 am. Bailey Sorton will speak on Navigating Copyright Regulations. Eric Caines will do a workshop on Baroque oboes and Robert Sorton will lead the Chamber Music Reading Session.\n\n \n\nActive double reed players are encouraged to bring their instruments and take part in the Chamber Music Reading session where musicians will have a chance to read double reed ensemble music and evaluate it before purchasing. The prices for the music presented will be discounted and comments will be collected and published on our website. \n\n \n\nEveryone is encouraged to bring their unused instruments\, music and equipment for resale at the Recycle Table. This is a chance for professionals to find a good home for your used equipment so you can purchase new items and for students and band directors to pick up quality equipment at reduced prices.\n\n \n\nFor more information\, check out our website at oboesontheohio.org. All day admission (which includes the evening's Ohio Valley Symphony concert) is $30 (students $20). Tickets are available online at arieltheatre.org or at the box office at 426 Second Ave. in Gallipolis OH. The admission includes a pre-concert chat at 6:45 by Steven Huang\, Director of Orchestras at Ohio University and a post concert reception. Individual concert only tickets can be purchased at the box office or online at arieltheatre.org for $24 for adults\, $22 for seniors and $12 for students. Click here to watch and listen as these two men chronicle their lives in the double reed world and speak of the great oboists and conductors of the 20th century. There is a special segment with Ted on reeds with examples dating back over 70 years.
